Look! Up in the sky! It's Superman… and Betty Boop!
We’ll start with Superman…
In the coming weeks, Fathom Events will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 1978 feature film Superman, starring Christopher Reeve, with a limited re-release of this fan favorite in movie theaters around the country. The event will also include a special showing of "The Mechanical Monsters," one of Fleischer Studios' films from their amazing series of animated Superman shorts.
Released November 28, 1941, "The Mechanical Monsters" will be celebrating its 77th anniversary. What a wonderful way to celebrate!

Did you know that Clark Kent transformed into Superman in a phone booth for the very first time in "The Mechanical Monster." This, of course, would go on to become a central feature of the Superman mythology.
We expect to see Superman in the sky, but Betty Boop…?
According to "Calypso," the second of four mini-episodes of Star Trek (otherwise known as Short Treks), not only is Betty Boop still around - she's an interstellar sensation! The episode, co-written by prize winning novelist Michael Chabon, takes place thousands of years in the future where a man on the run finds himself on a Federation space ship where he watches the 1933 Fleischer film "Snow White" which features Betty Boop, Ko-ko the Clown, Bimbo and Cab Calloway's famous rendition of St. James Infirmary Blues.
You can find the Short Treks episode "Calypso" on CBS All-Access now.
But wait… there’s more!
The Thanksgiving Day edition of the New York Times featured a retrospective classic of photos from the the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade - and there was Betty Boop! The photo in the Times features a gaggle of children gathered around a hotel window and watching Betty's balloon (featured in the photo below) float by as part of the 1992 parade.
